As you may be aware CityFibre was awarded the Project Gigabit contract for Suffolk. Project Gigabit is the government’s flagship programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast gigabit-capable broadband. This four-year programme will see around 136,000 premises across Suffolk and parts of surrounding counties connected to our gigabit-capable fibre-to-the-premises network.
Your parish is included in the Project Gigabit rollout and we wanted to let you know in advance that build in your area is due to start in Jan 2026. Wherever possible, existing duct and pole infrastructure will be used to reduce the amount of construction required. However, new infrastructure will be needed and we are working closely with the council’s highways team to coordinate any work that is required. The contractor carrying out the work on our behalf is OCU Utility Services.
In order to carry out this work we will need to close 4 roads detailed below:
Church Lane, Norwich Road, Coopers Road and Mill Lane.

It is worth nothing that while some of the closures are for a number weeks we will maintain access to your property and we close sections of the road. During out of hours we will open as much of the road as is safe to do so. Road closed signs will be erected in the relevant area. For those living in properties which are in the closed area we will maintain pedestrian access to the property. It may not be possible to maintain vehicular access and residents may wish to park outside the restricted area during this time. Please be assured that we’ll will do our best to keep noise and disruption to a minimum and try to be considerate.
